Fundraising and Tactics

"Money doesn't buy elections." Thus said Indianapolis Mayor elect Greg Ballard.

But it doesn't hurt to have some.

Ron Paul has recently made news for raising $4M in one day, which is quite impressive. But since we are between reporting periods we will not see official numbers soon. But here is a hint as to how Fred is doing. I cannot find a reference right now, but Fred recently said in a speech that he has over 100,000 contributors. At the end of the 3rd quarter he had about 75,000. That means that in October he had at least 25,000 new donors. His average donation was about $200 per donor which implies that Fred has raised at least $5M in October alone--probably more than that.

Fred is just really beginning his media buys. Sam at Save the GOP says that the ads that were initially to be shown in Iowa are also being shown in South Carolina.

Fred is taking on a strategy that has previously not been attributed to him. He seems to be taking the first three primaries very seriously. Running ads in Iowa and South Carolina as well as recent visits to New Hampshire and South Carolina indicate that he is not setting the first two aside to wait for South Carolina. Based on his behavior, I think he believes that he can actually win at least two of these three races--you can guess which ones based on his media buys.
