Fred's Evening Briefing 11/2/07

The fred08.com website has begun posting a morning and evening briefing on their site. These are generally snippets from various news accounts or speeches. What is interesting to me on today's briefing was their choice of quotes. They quoted from MSNBC's First Read:
As another example, here were some of the focus group’s word associations with Thompson: “grandfather,” “father,” “conservative,” “soft spoken,” “good,” and “confident.”
I happen to agree with all of these adjectives, but apparently this is the image that Fred's campaign is happy to cultivate which means that they think that it is a winning image.

Works for me.

Joel;

It works for me as well. People are fickle when it comes to their candidates. People are going to vote for the person that gives them a "good feeling", the person they can most relate to.

The adjectives that were used, illicit positive memories with people. Especially the words "grandfather", and "father". If you have just one person who can draw a reference to someone in their own family (i.e. - Fred may remind them of their grandpa, or other dominant male figure in their life) there will be a connection - on a personal level.

"Soft spoken" to me means easy to relate to. People see him talking to people, instead of talking at them. He doesn't get overly animated. You can almost imagine him sitting down on a porch in a rocking chair - just shooting the breeze with neighbors. In this case his neighbors are those attending his rallies and events.

That's my take on that particular story. And I've enjoyed your blog.
